story from elsewhere....

This is a story I heard from somewhere else…
A woman was admitted to ward after a motor vehicle accident. Days later, someone had ordered a blood count for her and decreased of hemoglobin was noted. The doctor on call in the ward had proceeded with an abdominal cat scan and diagnosed as internal bleeding. Whole world was alerted ( “全世界action” is a world I learnt from a TVB HK custom drama –“缉私群英” ) and the pt was put under before the surgeon arrived to see the patient.
Before landing his scalpel, the surgeon had decided to review the scan again and found that there was no ascites noted….
Lessons :
1. hemoglobin would be diluted after few days of fluid infusion

2. never trust a on call doctor unless you have work with him for a long time

"Research institute"

The Chinese translation of post graduate school is “research institute” which actually reflect the nature of the studies.
Our last course was conducted by a “strict” professor and he had requested a report after the course.
He had explained his requirement and it was quite demanding as he requested a “thesis” like report. He had explained that as a student in the “research institute”, we should be producing up to standard paper during the course. One of our classmate have asked me with a strange look, “Does our professor means that we are studying in ‘research institute’ ?”

OMG… I gave her a grin and said yes… well, after one semester, there are still classmate that haven’t got any idea what we are doing….
It is really a chance of a lifetime and I appreciate it...

12 down, 33 to go ....

I am stepping into my 2nd semester of my post graduate course. It was a challenge to me as I had to rush for the course in the Friday afternoon. However I had gone through every obstacle since the beginning of the course.
There are actually 3 “levels” of master course in the seminary college I am studying at the moment. The entry level is the Master of Ministry which is something like a taught master, no thesis is needed and it needs slightly more than 40 credits to complete. The next level - Master of Divine, requires at least 3 years of study and a thesis(credit requirement is double). The final level is Master of Theology which required a post graduate degree of Master of Divine to enroll.
The seminary I am studying is located in Hua Lian; it is one of the 3 seminaries set up by the local Presbyterian Church, it is also a member of the Association for Theological Education in South East Asia.
I had gone through 5 professors so far and found that apart of being members/pastors of the Presbyterian Church, they are so open minded and the knowledge they possessed is way beyond my imagination.

I had never think about of getting a post graduate degree from the seminary, but yet I am on my way to the end point, with the hand of GOD, everything is possible…

childhood food - wantan mee...

During my early days in college, I had missed Malaysia so much, esp. the food. After 4 years of serving with MOH, I had “memorized” all the taste of my favorite food. The eagerness of “must eat” was not there but yet from time to time, I would think of those mouth watering yummies…
Wantan mee at one of the corner coffee shop in Setia Alam...(Rating = enough class = up to standard)

Wantan Mee is one of my favorite since childhood. In the past, there were a few shops in Klang who is specialized in selling Wantan Mee. The first one is along Jalan Tengku Kelana (now is known as India Street), the shop also offered abalone dried mee which cost around RM24 ( RM 0.80 for 1 plate of average wantan mee at that time). There other shop was opposite the post office which owned one of my classmates. Both of the shop was classic to me.
Later in my life, I had come across many wantan mee which I thought was up to the standard.
Wantan mee was a Cantonese dishes and I thought I should find that best in Hong Kong but During my 1st trip there, I had tried out the “Lou Min”(stir noodle) and found that it was something very different. The wantan mee has become one of its kind and I precious the chance of tasting it during my home visit.

helpless night...

It was a busy day for me and I was lucky enough to complete all the tasks before 6pm. I reach ED by 7:30pm and found that the ED was packed with patient. I thought it was a massive casualty scenario but my surgical aide told me it was just Saturday…
I was a little bit irritated with the scenario when I took a glance at the patient list. It was 7:40pm and Pt registered at 6:50pm was not seen yet, violation of ED client charter(pt should be seen within 30min..). I told K, I would take over the consultation and he cleared whatever was pending...
It was a disaster since last year when the management decided to stop Saturday night clinic. Weekend’s evening patient had increased in number since then. I had had good Sat and Sun night but yet it is bad most of the time. Well, nothing could be done as the management had its thought and felt that they could live with it.
In the past there was there was this post known as night shift nursing leader which acted as “runner” cum overall supervisor. Night shift nursing leader worked from 4 till 12 and was the shift was distributed among senior nursing personnel. There were a few nursing staff whom had held the post as permanent post but they were either promoted or resigned later on.
To reduce cost, the management had decided to remove night shift nursing supervisor for the Saturday night and I was stuck with the massive casualty like condition, a very uncomfortable one....and I decide to do something ....

I had called up our nursing director and help came 1+ hrs later, a very odd act but yet I think something need to be done…
someone came down hours later where the condition had become better...

Motoring....

I had rented a car during my stay in Malaysia as there is no extra car to spare for us in the family. My last rental with Hawk Car Rental was a pleasant one and I had chosen to be a return customer. I had wanted an Altis but fear that I might ended up like my brother (who was given a Mazda3 instead [same grade]) as the backseat had to comfort 3 person(my mother in law would be travelling with us most of the time). So I opted for Slyphy instead. Everything was fine apart from the faulty cigarette lighter socket which prevented me for charging my Garmin. That led me with occasion GPS blackout during some of the cruising tour, however my Note8 filled in the blank and save the day.
The handling of Slyphy is like an average Japanese car but the interior space was spacious, definite would opt for it next time.

Total petrol damage was RM100 plus RM50 of toll money…

Hometown...

I was born in PJ and raised up in Klang, but I pretended that I had a Kampung (home town) which is named Chuah since my schooling day.
Chuah is a small town along the road connecting Sungai Nipah and Lukut. Sg. Nipah was the origin place of Nipah Virus which taken more than 100 lifes in 1999.
The Chinese name of Chuah is “swine lake” but there is no lake around. I presumed that it
was one of the major place raring swine before the operation shifted to Sg. Nipah.
Chuah is a small one street town with a school and police station at both end of the town.
My mother’s side grand parents ran a coffee shop there. Opposite the coffee shop there is a huge rubber plantation of 200 acres in which my grand father owned 75 acres. The British whom he worked for gave him the land when the British fled back to England during the Japanese occupation.
The coffee shop is a 2 storey wooden building which divided into 3 sections. The frontal section was the shop with the middle part (partially uncovered) functioning as the food preparation area. The posterior section was an extension of the main building leading to a small opening area which is partially covered by shed. My grand mother used to slaughter chicken at this area.
The shop house was filled surprised for a poor kid like me; so many rooms, novels, sweets, VCR and even a original Monopoly set.
It was like an escape to both me and my brother….we had a great time during those stays.
Due to strenuous labor, my granny had later suffered from severe ostheo-arthritis dampening her mobile function and my auntie who helped her running the shop had decided to shut down the operation and my granny had moved to Port Dickson and stayed with my uncle. During one of the days of my MOH service, I had visited her and she had told me that she wants me to take her to Chuah to have a look, by then she was suffering from mild dementia and my mom, dad and aunt had stopped me from taking her there and I complied….. one of the “should just do it” task that I regret for my life…

Well, I took a detour during my trip to Port Dickson few weeks ago. I took the Sepang route and took a short stop at Chuah and took a few snap shot.
the second shop from left is the coffee shop...

abandon for ?years

plantation opposite the shop, it was rubber tree in the past but later due to price drop of rubber, they had replanted it with palm oil...should be regretting at the moment as the rubber price had risen (I heard that rubber tapper earn more than a junior executive nowadays)...but however the plantation was sold to someone else few years ago.....

the malay stall sells good nasi lemak....but look abandon...

I wanted to took a short walk but it was late at noon for lunch, I just stopped by for a few photo snap… maybe on my next visit, I would take Yun and Xian to the well which had drowned a child at the back of the street…

never ending story..

It was a busy 24 hrs with pt coming in non-stop. I had fallen asleep few times while staring at the monitor. The most worrying part was driving home; very heavy traffic in the past and I was trapped for over 999 second at one of the traffic once….I was darn worried that I could fallen asleep during the drive and ram onto something. Well, with the grace of GOD, I had a safe passage.

There would be 4 consecutive morning shifts follow by 3 days off (in which, I had to attend courses in the afternoon…). Well, the ED count stroke 192 yesterday and we would be expecting more today, the best part was I got the day shift instead of night shift this new year, pro – got to sleep in the night, cons – very very tiring…
