l have been lazy
and tire for the past few months...
we had made a
major decision of "covering the top floor". Unlike the houses back in
the boleh land, most of the terrace houses here don't have a tile over the roof but a balcony instead. Our top roof
balcony has been leaking during the monsoon season after year2...I had
approached the developer and got a disappointed answer - the PU layer was not
painted thick and high enough to covered the exterior wall. we would have to
remove the tile and repaint the PU layer, which is a major procedure. During
the winter period of Y3, I had come across weather shield product
by ICI Dulux. I painted it and it had lasted for 3 years without any leak,
according to the instruction, repainting every 5 years is warranted. however,
it had lasted only 3, but I was satisfied with the effect. The rest of my
neighbor just let the leak be as it was minor with water staining over the 3rd
floor wall. One of our neighbor had given up and finally build a roof thus
adding an addition room on the 4th floor.
This year while I was preparing for the 3rd
paint, Ving had suggested that why don't we build it as well. I hesitated but
did not reject Ving's suggestion. After some hunting event, the project was
initiated. 2 rooms would be added on 4th floor. The building of the exterior
wall is simple with steel backbone and covered with alloy board. Simple but
ugly..Ving decided to make it a living room like space and we had decided to do
some interior renovation. The exterior work took about 1.5 month and ended in
November. The interior work took another 3 weeks and the workers had finally
evacuated from our house...
We had 2 rooms added and maintained a small
balcony. I had done a few wood works myself and it had taken part of my rest
time.
I had installed a 100' screen and projector
with 3D capability. The effect was stunning; the high pitch voice made by Yun
and her classmate proved it while they viewed the Jurassic World...
A big hole in my pocket but worth every
penny...
I had a few nerf gun fights with Xian on the
4th floor and it was great...
The thought of getting acquiring a land and
build a house had bothered me at the beginning of last year, but there would be
no point as in 6 years time as Xian will be leaving for higher studies then. A
small extension is suitable at the moment and I think we had made a good
decision..
